Critical Field Alert – Screen Recording Failure following Windows 10 Upgrade to build 1803.

Problem Description

Screen recording from a workstation stops after Windows 10 is upgraded to version 1803 – also known as the Windows 10 April 2018 Update

Problem Summary

Microsoft built a new service for Windows 10 starting from build 1803. For the new service, they picked NTRegistry name CaptureService. Verint already uses this name for the Screen Capture Module (SCM) service. The Windows 10 upgrade to build 1803 replaces the service with the new one from Microsoft, resulting in failure of Screen Capture Module functionality.

Affected Versions

All versions of Screen Capture Module are affected.

Resolving the Issue:

A Screen Capture Module update is under development. From this point Verint will use the new service name “ScreenCaptureService”.

Workaround:

The workaround involves NT Registry editing BEFORE the Windows upgrade.

Customer’s IT should rename the below key (mandatory) and value (optional)

from

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CaptureService]

"DisplayName"="Capture Service"

to

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ScreenCaptureService]

"DisplayName"="Screen Capture Service"
